Lost Lake

The weekend of August 22, a bunch of Homerites and I roadtripped to Seward to do the Lost Lake Run. Its a 15.75 mile trail run up a mountain and through a pass with a peak elevation of 2,100 feet.

Probably the best weekend of my summer.
Seward was beautiful,
and pre-race day, I went adventuring with some of my favorite Homerites

The first 5 miles were fairly steady uphill climbs. That was a bit rough but I was apparently in the back of the group with the non-ambitious racers. This meant that there were points where I was forced to walk just because the people in front of me were walking and there was no room to pass, but also that I didn't feel pressured to run on the particularly steep parts and saved some energy.

But really, once we got past those 5 miles, the run was a total cake walk, because we came up above the tree-line into this mountain pass....I can't even begin to describe how fantastically beautiful this trail was. If not the number one most beautiful trail I've been on in my entire life, it most definitely is in the top 3. Bright green, yellow, and orange apine vegetation, bare craggy snow-covered peaks 360 degrees around, bright blue glacial lakes peppering the hills....My god it was stunning.

At mile 10 the trail was just gently rolling downhill through sort of meadowy habitat, and those last 6ish miles just zoomed by.

I finished in 3 hours and 16 mins, 202/377 for women. I'm pretty happy. I think if I ever did it again, I could finish under 3 hours, now that I'm familiar with the trail.

Mark, Val and I on the bus (one of) that transported the runners to the trail head:

Wow That sounds so awesome! I'm still ashamed of myself for having that panic attack and getting too scared to go hiking with you and Abe. Thought we'd ahve to be running up a mountain.... That just isn't my scene. But that sounds so cool!
