Excuses for being late

I've developed some bad habits about arriving to work on time. They're really lenient about it (we have flex time, so if I'm late I just have to stay a bit later in the evening) so its not really a big deal, but today I actually had a legitimate excuse! I was about to head out the door when we spotted a bear sauntering up the driveway. It's kind of funny because just the other night I was talking about wanting to sleep in and not go to work, and my friend was like "just call in. its Alaska, say you're stuck somewhere." Which really is legit up here - I have another friend who lives about 30 minutes out of town, and some days she can't drive in because of the mud. Not even snow or ice, but MUD.

(commentary compliments of my housemate Kyra)

On Friday I'm heading back east for a little over a week - my family is moving to the Philippines (um CRAZY) and they'll be renting out the house. So I'm going to attempt to get rid of/pack/store/ship 19 years of my life. That will be an adventure through my childhood. However, I'm very much looking forward to wearing flipflops and skirts. Although it's entirely possible I might just melt in DC humidity, I've (finally) adjusted to the climate here where I am comfortable in just a sweater in 50 degree weather. A far cry from last summer - I had just returned from living in Belize for a year and was wearing long sleeve shirts in June...
